We are happy to announce the arrival to the Gig Harbor area the fascinating Olympic Sport of Fencing. This exhilarating and challenging sport is gaining popularity in the United States, and is well-suited for athletes of all ages. We are preparing athletes to compete at the Cadets, Juniors, Seniors and Veterans levels to qualify for the NCAA, Regional, National, Pan American, World Championship and Olympic Games.
Coach Atilio Tass, a graduate of the Hungarian Sport University, brings a wealth of Fencing knowledge and experience to the Gig Harbor area. He recently retired as Head Fencing Coach for Brown University after 18 years, and is a world class Fencer and Olympian himself. Coach Tass has been an official referee for USA Fencing, NCAA Championships, World Championships, Olympic and Para-Olympic Games.
Coach Tass’ dynamic approach to the sport of fencing is to focus on games leading to challenges that develop balance, agility, speed, self-control and mental focus that are some of the skills needed by the athlete.
Coach Tass is fluent in Spanish, English, Hungarian and Italian.
Students with no fencing experience will learn the basics of fencing footwork, bladework, body position and Saber bouting.
Students must arrive in full length athletic pants and athletic shoes.
No shorts, flipflops or boots allowed.
All fencing equipment is provided for beginners.
All fencing gear is provided!
A face mask covering nose and mouth is required at all times in the facility.
USA Fencing still requires face masks. This may change, but currently is in effect.

For students age 8 – 11 with no fencing experience. Students will learn the basics of fencing footwork, bladework, body position and bouting saber.

For students age 18+ with no fencing experience. Students will learn the basics of fencing footwork, bladework, body position and bouting saber.
We offer all the necessary equipment for rent. We even allow you to take your equipment home with you!
